# Are Your Survey Techniques About to Change?

Last year my daughter received a six inch, black and red toy drone that was capable of aerial tricks and able to be flown indoors. She thought it was “the coolest gift ever!” Today, I am reminded of that moment as I finish writing an article on Eka’s new Drone Project and realize toy drones are just the tip of the iceberg.

After decades of successful use in military capacities, drones have been steadily built into a multi-billion dollar industry. With growing potential use in product and pharmaceutical deliveries, retail, recreational, photography, photogrammetry, thermal imaging and other environments, drone technology is indisputably changing the world as we know it.

***What does this mean for the commodity industry?***

The combination of drone use and photogrammetry is changing the face of commodity surveying techniques, drastically reducing overhead costs and increasing data accuracy within 2cm. The integration of these images with Eka’s 3D Stockpile Manager delivers the necessary volumetric information that allows companies to better maintain and stock their yards.
